The Chief of Surgery is a clinical management position with responsibilities for the overall performance of the entire service line inclusive of resource management of budget and positions. The Incumbent is a key member of the clinical leadership team and reports directly to the president of the Medical Group.  Located just 21 miles from Boston, Signature Healthcare is multi-specialty, not for profit hospital and physician group comprised of Brockton Hospital (245 bed community hospital) and Signature Medical Group, which is made up of more than 150 physicians practicing in 18 ambulatory locations.

We are seeking a surgeon with experience leading a hospital surgery department or ambulatory center with a track record of managing a well-run practice exhibiting operational excellence and high patient satisfaction. This position a clinical leadership role with 24 hours of leadership time and 16 hours of clinical time.

As the Chair of the Signature Healthcare Chiefs of Surgical Services Committee will be responsible for administrative and medical practice management aspects of the surgical units and services, including General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Trauma, Oral Surgery and all other surgical sub specialties. Coordinate all planning medical staff supervision and hospital management interface processes as well as collaborative interaction with Anesthesiology, Gynecology and all other related Hospital staff.

This Chief of Surgery will be an integral member of the leadership team at Signature Healthcare, as such the role will have the responsibilities below:
  • Consistent with the system goal of promoting and creating a culture of safety, the Chief will plan, direct and coordinate division operations to ensure clinical quality excellence, maximum provider productivity, and division growth. 
  •  Responsible for clinical leadership of the physicians, APP's and other identified personnel within the scope of responsibility. 
  • Responsible for the clinical quality performance within the scope of responsibility by working collaboratively with the quality department, the medical group leadership and department physicians in developing quality goals for department and service lines.
  • Work collaboratively with Managed Care and department physicians in achieving performance goals within risk contracts including referral management, utilization, and practice variation.
  •  Oversee the activities of all surgical section Chiefs and, through Surgical Section Chiefs, of any general surgical residents or other surgical residents; and facilities attainment of Board priorities and goals.
  • Demonstrate competency with continuously improving systems, services and processes within the scope of the clinical authority.
  • Responsible for the clinical quality performance within the scope of the responsibility by working collaboratively with the quality department.
  • Provide leadership to and direct the service line management to ensure efficient quality service supporting patient satisfaction initiatives, access to care, practice operations, and provider compliance with group and department policies.
  • Responsible for growth of service lines within the scope of responsibility and supporting service lines within SHC.
  • Work with business development and SMG leadership to identify and achieve growth opportunities to identify opportunities for new programs within department.
